The Sixth Annual Garlic & Harvest Festival, Bethlehem, Connecticut

By Lorien Crow for One New England | September 10, 2010

IMG_6602 localfoodrocksThe 6th Annual Garlic & Harvest Festival will take place this October 9th & 10th at Bethlehem Fairgrounds.

This event is a true foodie paradise and will feature dozens of free samples from vendors, all garlic-themed, of course. Food court options last year included sweet potato fries with garlic mayo, roasted garlic sausage, garlic pizza, deep fried garlic, garlic marinated steak sandwiches, garlic cheeses, dips and oils, and – the most popular stop for last year’s attendees – garlic ice cream!

Event organizers Dave Harkness and his business partner Al were inspired by other festivals celebrating garlic, such as the Gilroy Garlic festival in California and the Hudson Valley festival in Saugerties, New York. After attending the New York festival, Al and Dave were inspired to create a similar event closer to home. You can thank them when you sample the garlic ice cream – they run the cart themselves.

Garlic is planted in fall, so there will be plants available to purchase at the festival as well as talks given by experts on how to grow it. Other lectures and cooking demonstrations will take place on both festival days, including “Growing & Cooking with Herbs and Garlic.” (The demonstration schedule is available on the website).

Live music, rides, craft vendors, and plenty of fun for kids – including a free dinosaur dig – are sure to make this festival a memorable and delicious one. Read the full article at One New England
